Sabian Symbols

 

I discovered Sabian Symbols a few years ago and have found that, like any other oracular tool, they can shed a lot of light on your western astrological chart.

The Sabian Symbols were channeled in 1925 by Marc Edmund Jones and Elsie Wheeler. Apparently Jones wrote all 360 degree increments of the zodiac on notecards, which he randomly shuffled and then held up for Wheeler to meditate upon. Jones did not know which degree of the Zodiac he was dealing with but Wheeler told Jones what images, visions or sense impressions she was having associated with each card. These images and impressions were recorded by Jones, who compiled them into lists which have been distributed since.

If your Sun is at 9 degrees 54 minutes in Sagittarius (like mine!) you will read the 9-10 degree symbol that says: "A Theatrical Representation Of A Golden-Haired Goddess Of Opportunity". Then, see what associations come up for you. It's all about gleaning more information about yourself - getting the Ah-HA's...whatever associations you get are correct!

Remember that your Sun sign represents who you are and who you are becoming. I found it hilarious that when I first read the Sabian Symbol for my Sun degree I had dark brown hair and although I could feel the 'theatrical' part I was bewildered at the golden-haired goddess part....but then a few years went by, I moved to Mexico and I ended up with golden touched hair, it's true! My boyfriend of five years here in Mexico has a 13 degree Libra Sun which is: "In The Heat Of The Noon Hour A Man Takes A Siesta" which indeed he does! He was the first person I'd ever met that did. Those are just some obvious associations I made....of course they go much deeper than that, though!
